Tipikus hibák #8: say/tell

SAY / TELL

*helytelen:
(1) Mrs.Parker said me that the kids had broken the window. (Mrs.Parker azt mondta, hogy a gyerekek törték be az ablakot.)
(2) She said me the sad news. (Elmondta nekem  a szomorú hírt.)

A say (mondani) ige után közvetlenül csak az állhat, hogy mit mondanak, és nem azt, hogy kinek. Így a say a következő formában állhat:
say something
say something to somebody


Ebből következik, hogy fenti két mondat helyesen így néz ki:

(1) Mrs.Parker said that the kids had broken the window. VAGY Mrs.Parker told me that the kids had broken the window. 
(2) She told me the sad news. VAGY She told the sad news to me.

A nyelvtanilag helyes mondatokból látszik, hogy a tell ige is azt jelenti, hogy mondani, és a következő szerkezetben használandó:
tell somebody something
tell something to somebody


További példák:

Tom said that he had seen the Almodovar film, 'Volver' sixteen times! = Tom told me that he had seen the Almodovar film, 'Volver' sixteen times!

Did you say you could not accept his offer? = Did you tell him you could not accept his offer?

Tom said he had seen 'Volver' sixteen times!
